When I started teaching my daughter basic cooking skills, I asked her what she wanted to try first.  “Cake!”

This recipe is perfect for a first time cake session or if you’re just wanting something you can whip up quickly.  It’s easy, delicious, and putting it in cones makes it all the more fun for young, budding chefs.

Easy Chocolate Conecakes

Prep time:  Roughly 20 minutes give or take if a grownup is making this or a new, young chef

Cook Time:  30 minutes

Makes:  10-12 conecakes

Ingredients:

10-12 ice cream cones with flat bottoms

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup water

3 tablespoons cocoa powder

2 eggs

1/4 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla

Plus frosting, if using

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

In a saucepan over low heat, mix butter, water, and cocoa powder.  Stir often until butter is completely melted.  Remove from heat and add with the flour mixture, mixing well.

Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla.  Beat for two minutes.

Place ice cream cones into muffin tin.  (This helps so that in case they tip over, they won’t fall completely)  Fill cones to roughly one inch from the top.  Put immediately into the oven.  Bake for 30 minutes.

Allow to cool before frosting, if so desired.

Enjoy!

Better hurry and eat these soon…

Or else Dino will come for them!
