Who knew sand art could be so tasty?

I will say right up front:  it takes a bit of time to sort the cereal by color.  However, I did end up with enough free time to get some chores that had fallen behind done while my daughter did the sorting.  Win-win!

All you need to make this is colored cereal.  You can do colored flakes like Fruity Pebbles, but I went with the Fruit Loops style.  The large O’s were a lot easier and quicker to sort.

So, First: sort your cereal into separate containers by color.

With a food processor or blender, grind the cereal down into a sandy texture.  I couldn’t get it completely into a sandy powder, but it was good enough for a child.

Once all of the colors are ground, get a tall/slender see through container and let your child have at it.

Best part is that when they’re done, they can still eat it.
