What started out as a fun project with our daughter turned into a really helpful tool when I forgot to label where all of the taps were located for sap collection!
With every inch covered in soft snow, we took advantage of the powdery fluff to do some track identification. It’s amazing how excited kids can get and start acting like the late Steve Irwin or a detective on the hunt for a suspect. Who am I kidding? I went right along with them!
When I forgot to label all of the tap locations for sap collection, we were able to follow our tracks through the snow to find all thirty of them! Pretty helpful.
So, what all tracks did we find and the guesses as to the owners?

First we will start with this obvious one. The reason it was obvious is because we found this print in our chickens’ area. Yep, it’s a chicken print
Next up were some different variety of birds:

My daughter tried to go so far as to identify which type of birds these belonged to, but that was beyond my abilities. In some areas, there were tones of different bird tracks.

We did conclude that birds are very good at hopping.

I had the opportunity to watch a rabbit make some of these, so that helped big time. I do find it amazing how their front paws seem to be so close together that their tracks look more three-legged.

You can’t go track hunting without showcasing the cat!

Who made these insane squiggles?

Of course! Only goats could roam around as aimlessly as these tracks looked.

Who did these lines? Is it cows?

Yep, it’s cows.

Might as well identify the tire tracks while we’re at it.

These last ones were hard to place. They clearly belong to some crazed fool who seems to actually enjoy running in knee deep snow and does so… for FUN!?!? What kind of madness is this? Who must these tracks belong to?
It’s me!
