This isn’t so much a family craft as it is a helpful tool for school, but I’m going with it.  When multiplying the number 9 with any number between 1 and 10, you can simply count that number on your hands and lower that finger.  That will give you the answer.

For instance:

9 x 1

Your thumb will count as the first finger, so you lower the thumb.  What you are left with is zero fingers before the thumb and 9 fingers after.  Thus: 9×1=9.

Let’s keep going:

9 x 2

9×2=18

9 x 3

9×3=27

9 x 4

9×4=36

9 x 5

9×5=45

9 x 6

9×6=54

My daughter had trouble keeping that pinky on her left hand up, but it is technically (supposed to be) straight.

9 x 7

9×7=63

9 x 8

9×8=72

9 x 9

9×9=81

9 x 10

9×10=90

Hope this helps with those 9 multiples.  Happy mathing!
