While most of the rooms were a very neutral beige when we moved to our new house, some were very bright and colorful.

Something about that pink scared me. I don’t know what it was, if it was the darkness of the bare windows at night mixed with that bright of a pink or what. The purple was pretty, though, and I’m very thankful the previous owners left the paint can behind because we did decide to paint another room with the purple.
For the craft room, I wanted to do a woodsy theme. First came the chocolate brown, technical color was Oregon Trail, for the walls’ base. I loved the richness of the color. With a pencil, we stenciled in the outline of the trees and used a dark brown to outline the trunks.

Next, we took two greens that were side by side on the color scale for the leaves. With a foam sponge, we cut a leaf shape and used it to stamp the leaves onto the walls. We alternated light, dark, light to give a three dimensional feel.

Last came the fairies. Interestingly, it was hard to find a gold paint. The one I found was very thin and meant to give a gold sheen on top of a color. It worked, so I’m happy. Again, we took a foam sponge and cut a butterfly shape out. By giving the sponge a little pinch when stamping, it helped to create enough of an arch between the wings to make it look like they were flying.

Overall, it was a fun project. I can’t wait to see what we do next!
