Cooking over an open fire, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs, heating your house with a wood stove, boiling maple sap, etc.  It requires logs that have been chopped into fire wood.

I’m busy and that means that I like efficiency.  Chopping logs is a great workout, so I love it.  But, I don’t love leaning over after every single chop to go after each and every portion of the log.  I want something that I can hack away at the wood until it’s perfectly split and, then, gather the firewood up all at once.

Which brings me to, for lack of a better name, the Double Tire Log Holder.

Dun, dun dun…

Sorry, had to add that in there.  This is so simple to make.  We used two old tires, bolted them together where they touch, three bolts total, with nuts and washers.  And voila!

The average length for logs meant to be made into firewood is about 16 inches, which is what the log is in the picture below:

Not only will the split wood be kept in a neat gathering inside of the tires, but the bouncy rubber offers a great recoil, so you can keep going and going.

Now you can enjoy a video demonstration which includes my daughter commenting.  This is me going at my tenth log… for maple sap boiling!!!!!
