The first batch of chickens we bought after deciding to get back into laying hens included GoldSweet. That year, we bought a mix of Isa Browns, Australorps, and Easter Eggers. GoldSweet was an Isa Brown, a breed we ended up loving especially in regards to how tame they became. Nothing says ‘keeper’ like a chicken that will let a toddler pick them up.
While death is always expected on a farm, it hits hardest when it comes to a dearly loved pet. GoldSweet was our daughter’s baby. The chicken who popped up at the kitchen door’s ledge to give our daughter the cute face in exchange for a treat. She played peek-a-boo with our daughter and would jump on her lap when she visited the chickens.

Rest in peace, GoldSweet
