This was such an easy way to make use out of a broken water tank and get my daughter excited about gardening.  The 100 gallon tank was a little taller than our five-year-old could manage, so we sawed off the bottom to have it stand at a lower height.  Once we decided where to set the raised bed, we added a base layer of rocks before filling the tank the rest of the way with compost.

Because this became my daughter’s garden bed, I let her pick out some plants from the store.  Her favorite color is purple, so the flowers were purple and the pepper was even a purple variety.  The tomato is a darker red, the closest she could get to purple.

She really got excited about using her toy tractor to haul the plants over to her new garden.

And, that’s it.  What else could be refurbished to make into a raised bed?
