These are by far and away my favorite brownie recipe.  It originally appeared on/in the box of unsweetened BAKER’S chocolate and I used it all the time.  Lately, however, the recipe is no longer on the box.

This is one of those recipes that should never get lost or forgotten.  It is too delicious!

I did make one change, and I note that in the recipe.  If you are wanting to stick to the tried and true version, do not use the salt.  There was no salt used in the original recipe.  I like to think that it gives the flavor a bit of an oomphed boost.  Seriously, salt gives everything better flavor.  Even Ina Garten mentioned in one of her cookbooks that when asked about what one item she would bring if she were to be stranded on an island, she answered that she would bring salt.

BAKER’S One Bowl Brownies

Cook time:  30-35 minutes     Total time: 40-45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional, this is not in the original version of the recipe)
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped (optional)

Directions:

Grease a 13X9 inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Melt butter and chocolate.  You can either do so in the microwave or (what I like to do) is melt the butter on the stove set to a low setting.  Once the butter is almost completely melted, I add the chocolate and stir until it is also melted.  Remove from the heat, you don’t want the chocolate to get overheated.

Once cooled enough, add the sugar, eggs, and vanilla.  Stir well.

Add the flour, salt (if using), and nuts (if using).  Stir well.

Pour into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.

It’s that easy and so good!
