Who doesn’t love a good mystery?

What about writing one?

Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine started in 1956 and has featured many well known writers.  They are interested in anything that qualifies as mystery, from: “the classic whodunit to the hardboiled tale of suspense.”  That was on their ABOUT page HERE.

Interested in submitting?  Let’s see what they’re looking for:

Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine’s Guidelines

  1. They really are interested in anything that falls under mystery/crime: suspense, whodunit, courtroom, police investigation, private eye, etc.  They’ll even accept a paranormal one once in a while.  It just has to involve/be about a crime.
  2. Stories should be less than 12,000 words.  In fact, they prefer stories to be much shorter than that.
  3. They have to be completely fiction, no retellings of real life crimes or research stories about on going crimes/investigations.
  4. Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine has a sister magazine titled, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.  Both ask that you do not submit the same story to them at the same time.

That’s the bulk of it.

You can check out their Writers Guidelines page for more information and to find how to get a sample copy HERE.

Although they offer an address for those wanting to submit by mail, they prefer online submissions HERE.

Good Luck!
